Who is who at IDEA? Who is the management team at IDEA Ingeniería?
Behind every great department and business unit there is a great professional. Today, we will tell you who makes up IDEA’s management team, who is in charge of each one of them, and how they came to become fundamental parts of our team: #IDEATeam.
As we told you in our previous post, at IDEA we are consolidating as a benchmark in Industry 4.0, strengthening our departments and adding two new business units to the company: Networks and Architecture.
General Manager: Emilio Sánchez
Founder and CEO of IDEA, he graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, receiving the award for best thesis. He began managing the DepartmentofConstruction and Assembly as an employee, then embarked on the innovativejourney of entrepreneurship.
He launched IDEA Ingeniería to carry out a myriad of ideas that could change the way of doing engineering,uniting the world of engineering with the digital world, to lead INDUSTRY 4.0. But he did not stop there: carrying his entrepreneurial spirit consistently, he has co-founded and invested in several start-ups besides IDEA such as VISUARTECH DEVELOP, IA MANUFACTURING and DRÓNICA.
He perceives the company from an educational point of view, and was an associate professor at the UCPT, in the department of Structures and Construction, and a member of the Board of Governors of the College of Industrial Engineers of Cartagena.
- His hobbies? The sports, movies and gastronomy.
- A flaw? Impulsivity
- A virtue? Seeing and fostering the best in people.
Assistant Director: Carlos Vázquez
He has mainly gained his professional experience abroad: he started in 2001 at the Daimler Chrysler plant in Graz, Austria, as Assistant Project Manager for the Chrysler PT Cruiser; then later became project coordinator for the AVE 102 series, manufactured by Talgo, Siemens and Bombardier from 2002 to 2005 in Munich. Thanks to this enriching professional experience, for the following seven years he worked with the German multinational company Knorr Bremse on different projects related to the railway sector in Germany, Spain and Austria.
Later, from 2014 to 2017, he worked for the Australian Government in the Ministry of Transport as Head of Railway Maintenance. Since his return to Spain in 2018, he has worked as a consultant for several companies in the engineering and financial sector, including IDEA Ingeniería, where he focuses on the development of the company’s restructuring and growth strategy.
During his professional experience he has developed a solid knowledge of how companies work, especially with regard to the selection, reorganisation and motivation of their personnel.
CFO : Diego Rivero
With a degree in Business Administration and Management from the Complutense University of Madrid and an MBA from IEDE Business School, he began his professional career at the FCC Group, where he worked in the administration & finance and management control departments of different business units within the group. In 2011, he started working internationally for different multinational companies in Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Dubai (UAE).
In 2017, he joined IDEA as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, bringing his experience gained over more than 15 years of professional career both nationally and internationally. During this time, he has contributed first-hand to the growth in the company’s turnover and to the improvement of the main economic-financial indicators that make IDEA a leading company in its sector.
- His hobbies? Travelling and sports.
- A flaw? Meticulous and perhaps a little too perfectionist.
- A virtue? Problem anticipation, positivity and restlessness.
Director of Quality and Safety: Rosa Mas
After graduating in Technical Architecture in 2005, Rosa began her professional career at AMAT-GADEA Architects, and later became part of the Building team until 2010. In addition, her need for new challenges led her to alternate her regular projects with technical management and safety coordination projects.
In 2009, she obtained a Master’s degree in Occupational Risk Prevention, and became part of Repsol’s C-10 Project as a Prevention Technician, thus embarking on her experience in this area. She subsequently worked for three years as head of prevention in renovation with the construction company Millecasa, then moved on to ENAGAS until 2016, when she joined IDEA.
Today, after being Director of Quality, Safety and Environment, she is studying a Master’s Degree in Integrated Management Systems, JSA, Quality, Environment and CSR in order to improve her knowledge in this area. Thanks to her contributions to IDEA Ingeniería, we are currently the leading engineering company in the construction sector, obtaining the ISO 45001 Certification in Spain with AENOR.
- His hobbies? Her hobbies include sports, specifically running, scuba diving and going to the gym.
- A flaw? Self-demanding.
- A virtue? Organisational skills.
Project Engineering: Antonio Rubio
Antonio Rubio is a Senior Project Engineer, with more than 10 years’ professional experience. He studied Telematics Engineering at the UPCT and after finishing there he joined EMMSA, which allowed him to come into contact with IDEA Ingeniería for the first time.
His career includes milestones such as a one-year stay in Morocco participating in the construction of a Thermosolar Plant and the Repsol C10 project, after which he joined the IDEA adventure to develop the Mechanical and Piping Department, which he later led. Furthermore, he is also the current Project Manager.
In order to further develop his skills and contribute to the company’s competitiveness, in 2014 he took a Master’s Degree in Piping Engineering and Design at the International Institute for Plant Engineering and Design (INIPED) As the company grew exponentially over the years, he was involved in the formation of the mechanical department, bringing in personnel and setting up a team. As an added value, his advanced knowledge in digitalisation and digital transformation provides a different contribution to all the projects that are carried out in the company.
- His hobbies? Include fishing, paddle tennis, music and futsal.
- A flaw? Stubbornness.
- A virtue? Versatility
Engineering Manager: Juan Antonio Gutierrez
Senior Project Engineer, with more than 25 years’ professional experience Juan Antonio studied Industrial Technical Engineering at the UPCT and then began his professional experience at PEGINFRA as technical tender manager, but given his interest in the world of engineering project management, he requested a change to ELAN PROYECTOS, where he expanded his knowledge in all disciplines, moving from his position as Technical Writer Estimator up to Head of the Monitoring and Construction Site Control Department.
After nine years, he joined IDEA Ingeniería where he started as Facilities Manager until he became Technical Manager. He is currently Engineering Business Unit Manager, in charge of International Multidisciplinary Project procurement and management in the Oil&Gas, Water, Chemical and Energy sectors.
Having been through almost all the stages and disciplines of a project and following 26 years’ experience, he provides a comprehensive insight into the comprehensive management of a project from the initial phase, design, construction and commissioning.
- His hobbies? Hiking, DIY projects and rallies.
- A flaw? He may come across as reserved.
- A virtue? Great capacity for analysis and judgement.
Engineering EPC Manager: Rafael Manzano
Rafael has always been linked to IDEA INGENIERÍA, being a founding partner of the company together with Emilio Sánchez. He is an Industrial Engineer and completed his higher studies at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, winning the award for the best thesis in his academic year.
He has over 22 years’ great professional experience that can be divided into several stages: more than 10 years in manufacturing, quality control, management and execution of all kinds of projects; and more than six years in creation and start-up projects at a thermal and thermochemical steel treatment plant, performing the tasks of plant management, technical management and quality manager, before later joining IDEA.
Since the beginning of his career, he has directed and managed the company’s Quality Department, obtaining the Quality Management System Certification, before leading the new Turnkey Projects Business Unit in 2017, sharing his extensive experience in manufacturing, quality control, contracting and execution of works with the team.
- His hobbies? Include sports, travelling, history, art and music.
- A flaw? Obsessive.
- A virtue? Enthusiastic, perfectionist and patient.
Recruitment and Outsourcing: Raquel Lara
Raquel Lara Robles is a Civil Engineer from the University of Alicante and a Public Works Technical Engineer specialised in Hydrology from the University of Cartagena, Murcia. As soon as she finished her degree she knew that she had to reinvent herself and use her ingenuity to contribute to the sector in a beneficial way.
In 2015, she started at IDEA Ingeniería, where she quickly detected the importance of having a good work team to achieve success in projects. Soon this need would start to spread to IDEA’s clients and the R&O Service would emerge as a new business unit with a firm structure by the end of the year.
Raquel realised that she enjoyed contributing and working directly with people and, by reorienting her career towards this sector, she began to train in Human Resources and psychology and contributed to strengthening IDEA Ingeniería’s HR Department. Little by little, with IDEA growing as a company, the capacity of our current director to manage work teams and this new business unit autonomously also flourished.
- His hobbies? Travelling, photography, and any activity that takes her out of her daily routine.
- A flaw? Too demanding.
- A virtue? Her energy and positive attitude.
Digital Transformation Director: Pedro Cuellar
Senior Project Engineer, Pedro studied Energy and Environmental Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University (UK), where he won gold medal for being the best student in his academic year. He subsequently expanded his knowledge with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention and Advanced Administration and Project Management with merits.
Since 2015, and after carrying out international projects in places such as Germany, Croatia and Oman, Pedro arrived at IDEA Ingeniería to take care of BIM design. Since 2017 he has led the company’s Digital Transformation Department, where he has developed more than 20 R&D projects and reaped two important awards for innovation: most innovative SME in the Industrial Sector, awarded by the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Madrid (COIIM), and the InnoBankia Awardin the category of best company in Industry 4.0. In addition, his restless spirit led him to be a key figure in the I Master’s Degree in Industry 4.0 in the Region of Murcia, organised by IDEA and the UPCT.
His extracurricular training includes the title of Scrum Master, Management 3.0, and advanced knowledge of Design Thinking.
- His hobbies? His hobbies include travelling, reading and computer science in general.
- A virtue? Perseverance.
- A flaw? Too technically-minded.
Network Manager: Luis Otón
Luis is a Senior Projects Engineer, with a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention.
In 2005 he started working in different companies in the electrical and industrial engineering sector, supervising important projects in preventive and corrective maintenance in measurement parks, MV and HV lines, and distribution centres. He arrived at IDEA Ingeniería in 2014 to oversee the Framework Agreement with Iberdrola Distribución Eléctrica S.A.U. in the Region of Murcia as Iberdrola Facilities Manager, eventually extending the Framework Agreement to the Alicante and Castellón region. Since 2019 he has managed the company’s Networks Business Unit, always aiming to achieve the maximum benefits for IDEA’s clients in different fields.
His organisational spirit makes him an exceptional professional in equipment management, preventive and corrective maintenance in measurement parks, MV and HV lines, distribution centres and in supply network design, industrial assembly, supervision and resolution of incidents in the construction execution phase.
Architecture Business Unit Director: Begoña Santos
After studying Architecture at the European University of Madrid, she started her career as a freelance after four years working for a private multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm, which allowed her to combine her work life with her Master’s Degree (MBA). After finishing her studies, she rejoined the labour market as Project Manager for a construction company.
Since 2010 she has collaborated regularly with IDEA Ingeniería, until March 2019, when she joined the company as Architecture Business Unit Director. The new architecture business unit is currently enjoying continuous growth and is continuing to develop projects.
She has participated in numerous projects of various kinds, even winning the public award for interior design at the 18th edition of the Architecture Awards of the Region of Murcia in 2015.
She has a degree in Management 3.0 and advanced knowledge of Design Thinking, always aiming to apply an agile, innovative and creative vision to all her projects.
