IDEA collaborates in the TWINHOTEL project by contributing its knowledge and expertise in digital twins to develop a new management platform for the tourism sector.
The project.
The OVERALL of the project TWINHOTEL is the research, design, implementation and validation of a new management platform for key activities in sustainable hotel operations related to the optimisation of the new green demandresource management (water, energy, waste), improvement of air quality, and predictive maintenance (among others) based on the digital twin conceptwhich will support decision-making for the development of new sustainable hotel models that respond to the needs of the ecological transition. The project has been awarded a subsidy of almost €1,300,000 from the NEXT GENERATION funds.
Who participated in the project?
A multidisciplinary partnership of four entities has been formed to achieve the proposed objective:
- IDEA, specialised in BIM in the Industrial, Oil & Gas, Mining, Energy and Architectural sectors
- REGENERA LEVANTE, energy service company
- TINAMICA, an expert company in technological solutions
- SUIGENERIS, dedicated to offering digital transformation solutions
In turn, the following research centres will have a major participation in the project: Vicomtech Visual Interaction and Communication Technologies Centre Foundation (Vicomtech), Instituto Tecnológico de Informática (ITI), as well as the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH).
What are the implications of TWINHOTEL?
The project takes place in a context in which a progressive reopening and recovery of tourism is needed after the health crisis caused by COVID-19, where the hotel sector must adapt its operational processes in the most efficient way possible to achieve economic recovery and the viability of the businesses that existed before the pandemic. Although times are challenging, all measures aimed to the recovery of the hotel industry in the post-COVID era must be based on a sustainable model in its three social, economic and environmental cornerstones, in which processes undergo a progressive transition from the current linear economy model to the new circular economy.
TWINHOTEL responds to the new needs of the sector and the new ‘green’ demand.
In conclusion
The development of the TWINHOTEL project will lead to progress in the modernisation and competitiveness of the tourism sector through the implementation of new technologies for the sector, with new functionalities for the comprehensive management of the resources of a hotel establishment, whatever its size.
The achievement of the ambitious goals set for the project will bring the evolution of an agile enabling technology, digital twin, through the development of new functionalities, which will add value to it for use in the hotel sector. This will mean the possibility of applying a whole new comprehensive resource management strategy that can provide the hotel with the ultimate sustainability label.
