What Is Industry 4.0 or the Fourth Industrial Revolution?
The concept of Industry 4.0 was first introduced in Germany at the Industrial Technology Fair in Hanover, and the term quickly spread around the world, although it can also be referred to as the fourth industrial revolution, smart industry, interconnected industry or cyber industry. It embodies the idea of interconnecting all the parts of a company to create a much smarter, automated and effective enterprise.
The Smart Industry saves manufacturing process problems and supports industrial maintenance
Industry 4.0 transports us into the future by being able to create greater efficiency and adaptability in production processes. Industry digitalisation makes the virtual world and real world merge together to apply new information technologies in all manufacturing processes.
One of the most innovative examples of Industry 4.0 is the digital twin, which is a virtual process, product or service model. It is the pairing of the virtual and physical world, a technology that is already a reality in companies and which has become part of Industry 4.0.’s innovation and design strategies. This method has revolutionised the dynamics of the industrial sector, enabling the creation of virtual replicas of objects or processes, but we will go deeper into this type of digital enablers later on.
IDEA consolidates its position as one of the national benchmark companies in Industry 4.0 Digital Transformation. Investment in innovation and the commitment to new technologies are two of the fundamental aspects on which its growth is based and which have served as a competitive advantage over the competition.
One of the fundamental pillars of innovation, on which IDEA Ingeniería sought support from its earliest beginnings, was BIM (Building Information Modelling), a specific type of 3D modelling based on the use of objects that are turned into smart objects through the association of databases It is, therefore, a technology that serves to sequence, simulate and optimise the complete life cycle of the 3D model: Design – Engineering – Project – Manufacturing – Construction – Operation – Demolition.
IDEA’s CEO Emilio Sánchez manages a methodology based on markets and products mainly related to the industrial sector. As an expert visionary, he identified the need to bring added value to IDEA that would ensure it remained competitive, investing in the opening of new companies in order to achieve a greater scope of clients’ needs. That way in 2014 he became a founding partner of the technology start-up firm “Visuartech”, dedicated to the development of Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. Today, he has a stake in other companies in the innovation sector, such as IA Manufacturing (3D printing) and works hand in hand with Drónica (drones).
The latest adventure IDEA has undertaken is the creation of the 1st Master’s degree in Industry 4.0 in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena The Master’s degree’s goal is to create a training course adapted to the current market, training professionals in digital transformation, a sector that is booming and requires qualified personnel.
