IDEA Engineering is already working on the prototype of a beetle farm
This project consists of the creation of a prototype insect breeding farm for Beetle Genius.
The objective of this project carried out for Beetle Genius, is the development of a prototype insect breeding farm.
These insects, which are considered delicacies for human palates in many Asian and Central American countries, are increasingly being bred in Spain, but for very different purposes: to pollinate plants in greenhouses and fruit trees, to control pests or to serve as a pet food protein source. These insects are common in Mexico, China or Thailand and experts are already looking for a way to sneak them into our diet: camouflaging them as flour, macaroni, energy bars, etc. Although they are cheap and nutritious, they face a challenge: overcoming Western prejudices against eating them.
EU standards authorised the sale of insects for human consumption on 1 January 2018.
In this case, IDEA Ingeniería will develop the conceptual engineering for the experimental validation of insect breeding and feeding modules, as well as defining the product transformation process. IDEA will be working alongside theme experts throughout the project.
